Itinerary

Today you arrive in Antananarivo, affectionately known as "Tana".  Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Hotel Colbert - deluxe (no meals)

Today you will be driven through the highlands towards the eastern rainforest.  En route you stop at La Mandraka Nature Farm for a visit.  Here you will be introduced to different reptiles in Madagascar.  Late morning check in at the Vakona Forest Lodge, in attractively furnished cottages, nestled in a forest and garden setting.  Afternoon visit the small Vakona reserve.  Enjoy dinner at overnight. 

Vakona Forest Lodge (B, D)

Early this morning you explore the Perinet Reserve looking for the Indri Indri and to hear their haunting "singing call."  Take a mild hiking that will provide a good opportunity to experience the abundant flora and fauna of the eastern rain forest. Evening walk to get acquainted with the nocturnal lemur species such as the tiniest "mouse lemurs". Enjoy dinner and overnight at Vakona.

Vakona Forest Lodge (B, D)

Today you will be driven back to Tana to catch the late morning flight to Fort Dauphin at the most southern tip of Madagascar. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.  Spend the balance of your day at leisure.  Enjoy dinner and overnight at the Miramar hotel with spectacular views of sunset over the Indian Ocean.

This morning you will be driven to Berenty Reserve, a two-hour picturesque drive from the coastal rainforest to the spiny desert.  En route stop to see rare three-cornered palms and funerary art of the Malagasy burial grounds.  Spend your afternoon and this evening to visit the reserve.  Enjoy your meals and overnight at Gite d'Etape at the very edge of the reserve. 

Gite D’Etape (B, D)

Spend your day visiting Berenty Reserve.  Activities will center on walks through some well-swept paths.  Spend your time to view and photograph the ring-tailed lemurs.  If you are lucky, you will see the beautiful sifaka lemur as they dance across the path.  Other species seen in this area include: flying foxes, lizards, chameleons, the endangered radiated tortoise and dozens of species of rare birds.  Later, you will be transferred to Fort Dauphin for your flight to Antananarivo. 

Hotel Colbert – deluxe (B)

Today you spend your day exploring Antananarivo.  Attractions include Queen's summer palace at Ambohimanga and shopping at the colorful artisan's market of Androvoahangy.  Alternatively you can visit to the Tsimbazaza Zoo and Cultural Museums.  This evening you will be transferred to Villa Vanille restaurant for a farewell dinner.  Overnight is at hotel Colbert.
