SUNDAY: DAY 02 |
CAIRO
This morning you will be introduced to your Tour Egyptologist. After the introduction, you will start your tours scheduled for today. Your tours include the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx and a Camel ride.
Start your touring with an unforgettable tour of the Great Pyramids of Giza - a highlight of any trip to Egypt. These pyramids are considered only present-day survivors of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. They are among the world's greatest tourist attractions and never lose their ability to inspire and overwhelm visitors.
Your lunch venue today is the charming open-air Andrea restaurant, in the Pyramids area. In a garden shaded with canopies of bougainvillea, enjoy a set-menu lunch of freshly spit-roasted chicken and traditional mezza - accompanied by baskets of your own hand-baked pitas.
Experience Egypt's long and rich history in our exciting double tour to the city of Memphis and the necropolis of Sakkara. At vast Sakkara, you will see the famous Step Pyramid of King Zoser, the first freestanding stone structure in the world. Our Egyptologist will guide you to some tombs belonging to the nobles of the past. They show the beauty and excellence of Ancient Egyptian art on their walls and give an insight in the daily life of Ancient Egypt.
At the site of Memphis, you will see the ancient capital that once stood as a flourishing metropolis during the time of the Pharaohs. Lush palm groves and bushes surround this area. Because of this, it isolates the site of the old city from the modern civilization. You will be taken back to your hotel, where you will spend the night.

THURSDAY: DAY 06 |
ASWAN
Enjoy buffet breakfast on board. This morning, your Egyptologist will escort you to visit the Aswan High Dam, Egypt's contemporary example of building on a monumental scale. Take a short motorboat ride to visit the romantic and majestic Philae Temple on the Island of Agilka. Next we proceed to the Granite Quarries, which supplied the ancient Egyptians with most of the hard stone used in pyramids and temples, and still hold a huge unfinished obelisk. Return to your boat for lunch on board. Enjoy dinner on board, where you will spend the night.
M/S Sun Ray Cruise (B, L, D)
FRIDAY: DAY 07 |
ASWAN / ABU SIMBEL / ASWAN
Enjoy your buffet breakfast on board. In the morning (weather permitting) take a ride on a felucca, a typical Egyptian sailboat, around Elephantine Island, Lord Kitchener's Botanical Gardens, and the Agha Khan Mausoleum. Enjoy lunch on board the cruise. As an optional extra, fly to Abu Simbel for a tour. The two temples of Ramses II at Abu Simbel are each fronted by colossal statues up to 20 meters high, and are famed as the most impressive monuments remaining of Ancient Egypt in modern times. Recently the temples were threatened by the waters of Lake Nasser, and with the help of a UNESCO campaign they were cut into blocks, raised piece-by-piece, and reassembled in a new position higher up the hillside. After Abu Simbel excursion, fly to Aswan and transfer to your cruise. Spend the balance of your day in Aswan. Dinner is served on board.

You will also have a chance to visit at least one tomb in the Valley of the Queens. Make a photo stop at the temple of Hatshepsut Temple & Colossi of Memnon. Rising out of the desert plain in a series of terraces, the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut (Ancient Egypt's only female Pharaoh) merges with the sheer limestone cliffs that surround it, as if nature herself had built this extraordinary monument. On the way back to the river Nile, your road passes by the famed Colossi of Memnon, known in Ancient Greek times for their haunting voices at dawn. Return to your boat for lunch on board. CAIRO
Enjoy your buffet breakfast at your hotel. Your Egyptologist will escort you today on a fascinating tour of 7,000 years of Egyptian history with a visit to the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities. The Museum houses the world's greatest collection of Ancient Egyptian artifacts including 12 rooms filled with golden treasures from the world-famous tomb of the boy-king Tutenkhamun.
Proceed to the fascinating Khan El-Khalili Bazaar - reputed to be the largest bazaar in the Middle East. Originally founded as a watering stop for caravanserai in the 14th century, the bazaar has now grown to vast proportions. As you wander through the labyrinth of narrow streets you will find workshops and stalls selling all manner of things from woodwork, glassware and leather goods to perfumes, fabrics and Pharaonic curiosities.
Enjoy a 5-star lunch of traditional oriental dishes today, at the Arabian-style Neguib Mahfouz Restaurant. Named after the Nobel-prize-winning Egyptian author, the restaurant lies in the very heart of the 14th-century Khan El-Khalili Bazaar, and is steeped in atmosphere and history.
